I support the Republican plan for health care that lowers health care costs for Americans, increases access to affordable health care, and promotes healthier lifestyles -- without the crushing debt or government-run health care.

The full text of the Republican plan can be found here.  It is being offered as a substitute to the Pelosi health care bill.

Today I'm joining fellow Republicans to continue reading Nancy Pelosi's health care bill.  Reading will take place from 2 - 6pm today, and I will be reading from 2 - 230pm.  You can watch a live webcast at http://health.burgess.house.gov/webcast/

As I read through the bill,  I continue to find amazing and dangerous facts the Majority Party is trying to rush through.  You can read the text of the bill here.

Nancy Pelosi and House Democratic leaders released their new version of the health care bill.  It is 1,990 pages of government bureaucracy, weighing 19 pounds when printed.  I will be delivering a copy to the Tyron library in Pensacola at 12:30 p.m. today.  Copies will be delivered to all public libraries in the 1st District as soon as possible.

I've also posted a copy of the bill on the website here.

UPDATE: The Democrats' Manager's Amendment is now available here.

Today I had the privilege to welcome World War II Veterans from across Northwest Florida to Washington, DC as part of the fifth Emerald Coast Honor Flight.  Over 100 WWII vets visited the WWII memorial, as well as the Vietnam, Korean, and Iwo Jima Memorials.  My wife Vicki and I were joined by former Senator Bob Dole and one of Florida's current Senators, George Lemieux, in honoring our WWII veterans.  Pictures from the today's wonderful event can be found here.

Joe Wilson is a friend of mine. He's already apologized and it's been accepted by the president. This is just taking it too far.

Let's hear your thoughts on President Obama's speech last night.  Did he convince anyone that the health reform bill is a good idea?  Did he help the chances of the bill passing?  I want to hear what you think.

Earlier this month I had the chance to sit down with Sue Straughn at ABC WEAR-TV Channel 3 News and speak about the important issues facing Northwest Florida and our country.   The entire interview aired August 23rd at 9am.

UPDATE: Video of the interview can be found here.

Yesterday afternoon, the United States honored Colonel George "Bud" Day with a Marine Corps Sunset Parade at the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima) in Washington, D.C.  The hour-long Sunset Parade honors American heroes and features the music of "The Commandant's Own", The United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps and precision drill by the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon.

I had the privilege to attend the parade to honor Colonel Day.  Senator McCain, elected officials, and military leaders past and present joined hundreds of others in this fitting tribute to a true American hero.  Colonel Day is the most highly decorated living American. I am humbled that he is a part of Northwest Florida community and proud to call him my friend.  He is an inspiration to all of us.

I've put some of the pictures from the parade up on the website. Take a look.
